What is the income tax return?

The income tax return is an annual report you (or we on your behalf) submit to the Dutch Tax Authority. It includes an overview of your income, deductible expenses and assets for the relevant tax year. Based on this information, the Tax Authority calculates whether you need to pay additional tax or are entitled to a refund.

For freelancers and entrepreneurs, this process is often more complex than for private individuals, as it includes elements such as the self-employment deduction (zelfstandigenaftrek), SME profit exemption (MKB-winstvrijstelling), and business assets.

Where can I find the return?

If we handle your return, you’ll find the draft and final version of your income tax return under Documents in your Bookie account. We upload these after preparing and submitting your return. You’ll also receive a notification when the document is available.

If you filed the return yourself or with another accountant in the past, you can find previous returns via your Mijn Belastingdienst account under “Inkomstenbelasting” (income tax) or by searching by tax year.

In that case, you most likely filed it online. To download the PDF version of your return, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Mijn Belastingdienst and log in with your DigiD.
  2. On the welcome page, click on ‘Correspondentie’ (Correspondence).
